TNY279PN Pinout Equivalent
TNY279PN is an off-line switching power supply IC that features innovative EcoSmart energy-saving technology, which can reduce losses and dissipate heat accurately.
Pin connections and their function sheets
Pin | Name | Connectivity and Functionality |
---|---|---|
1 | DRAIN (D) | Drain connected to the MOSFET inside the chip. Provides start-up and steady-state operating currents for internal operation. |
2 | BYPASS / MULTI-FUNCTION (BP/M) | Connect a capacitor to ground. The current limit value is selected by the capacitance value. |
4 | ENABLE / UNDERVOLTAGE (EN/UV) | By connecting the optocoupler. Control the switching and protection circuits of power MOSFETs. |
5, 6, 7, 8 | SOURCE (S) | Connect the source of the MOSFET. The common side of the high-voltage power supply return and control circuitry. |
Note: The DRAIN pins are connected to the transformer’s primary winding and need to withstand high voltages, so the PCB traces should be as short and wide as possible in the design. It is used to reduce losses and interference with other components.

Note: The best replacement model for TNY279PN is LNK624PG, which has the same packaging and is produced by the same company. It should be noted that the switching frequency of LNK624PG is 93 kHz -106 kHz, the maximum duty cycle is 54%, and the rated power is 5.5 W, which differs from TNY279PN to some extent. Specific reference should be made to the actual circuit situation.
When replacing with NCP114AP10, although the withstand voltage is the same at 700 V, the switching frequency of 100 kHz, duty cycle of 62%, and packaging PDIP-7 are different, which will have a slight impact on the dynamic response and efficiency of the circuit.
VIPer12A has a higher withstand voltage of 730 V, but its switching frequency is between 54 kHz and 66 kHz, duty cycle is less than 50%, and power is 13 W, which needs to be considered in practical situations.
MC34063A and UC3842 have a much lower withstand voltage than TNY279PN, with a large difference in switching frequency between 47 kHz and 57 kHz. They can be replaced in low voltage scenarios, otherwise they may damage the components.
